Gestalt & onderzoek zijn niet altijd goede vrienden geweest. Ook nu nog wordt klinische diagnostiek en onderzoek niet door alle gestalt psychotherapeuten geaccepteerd. Zie het voorwoord van Leslie S. Greenberg voor het boek van Francesetti, Gecele & Roubal (2013).
Toch gebeurt er heel wat op dit gebied. Een Research Committee werd in 2008 in de schoot van de EAGT opgericht op het initiatief van Peter Schulthess.
Recent waren er enkele conferenties over onderzoek:
- GISC & AAGT: Cape Cod (USA) April, 17-20, 2013: THE CHALLENGE OF ESTABLISHING A RESEARCH TRADITION FOR GESTALT THERAPY
Keynote spreker hier was Leslie S. GREENBERG met twee voordrachten: ‘Noticing the Obvious – On the importance of observation and description as a first step in research, with task analysis as a means of doing this.‘ en ‘Engaging in a Research Program: an Example of Using Model Building, Measurement, Hypothesis Testing, and Relating Process to Outcome’.
Andere hoofdspreker was onder andere: Linda FINLAY: ‘The Relational Approach in Phenomenological Research’.
Er waren nog 22 bijdragen uit 11 landen. - EAGT: Rome May, 2 – 4, 2014: RESEARCH IN GESTALT THERAPY – Educational Seminar – Introducing research methods to Gestalt practitioners
Op dit ‘Educational Seminar’ werden enkele onderzoeksmethoden voorgesteld. Verschillende Vlaamse en Nederlandse gestalttherapeuten namen eraan deel. Het ging over methoden die gebruikt worden in lopend onderzoek. De powerpoints van deze conferentie werden door Paul Derkinderen vertaald in het Nederlands.
